DATES OF SERVICES PROVIDED : 1998 - 1999
A rail car handling and ship loading facility built at Poti
harbour of Georgia of 10.000 m2 area comprising of a container
handling facility, an administrative & control building and a Ra-Ra installation
to serve the Poti – Odessa rail ferry line. Central piece to the facility is the
floating, self stabilized Rail Linkspan. This 550t steel structure is a first of
its kind with fully adjustable flotation, bearing two track rails that allow
simultaneous loading/unloading operations of two trains from a vessel of up to
25.000 GRT’s capacity irrespectively of tidal conditions.
TRITON Consulting Engineers was responsible for the
conceptual and detail engineering design, the preparation of the technical
specifications, the contractual requirements and tender documentation of the
project, the assessment of the tenders, the technical overview and quality
control during construction.
The project involved the construction of a
floating steel approach bridge for rail use, weighing 550t and a heavy port
pavement for container use.
The
innovative design of the first of its kind worldwide linkspan allows total
freedom of movement. It can accommodate both special 24.000t Ra-Ra ships and
most of the Ro-Ro ships. Design and construction was certified by Lloyds
Register of shipping.
The
project was completed in April 1999 and hence it has been operating without
problems.
