CONSTRUCTION COST: US$ 1 Million
CLIENT: GENERAL STAFF, GREEK AIR FORCE
YEAR: 1988
Design of a conventional open sea mooring system for 27,000 DWT ships together
with an underwater oil unloading facility. The mooring system comprises three polyester
buoys of 3.5 1.5 m arranged around the bow of the ship at a depth of 25 m and fixed
to the sea bottom by 50mm diameter chains and 25,000 lb anchors. Three bollards are also
provided onshore. The design included two 100 m long submerged 10" steel pipelines
with HDPE coating. Connection between the two submerged pipelines and the ship's manifold
is obtained by a system of retrievable rubber marine hoses.
