DESIGN OF THE NEW PORT OF KAVALA, GREECE Design of the extension works of the New Port of Kavala. The new works include extension by 200m of the existing quay wall of 12m depth, to serve container ships and construction of a 310m quay 9.50m deep for general cargo freighters up to 15.000 DWT in capacity. A reclaimed area of 325.000m2 will be allocated to container stacking and for general cargo. Construction of both quay walls is by concrete cellular boxes (caissons). A Gantry crane will be accommodated along the deeper berth front. Measures against flooding of the land area include a network of open channels along the perimeter, of the port’s land area closed conduits and large box section outfall channels. An administration building, customs, offices, sheds, waiting areas and a member of storage areas have been designed, telephone. The design also included bathymetric and topographic surveys, geotechnical investigation, detailed engineering design and preparation of tender documents. |
