FLOATING BRIDGE IN LEFKAS ISLAND
CLIENT : MINISTRY OF TOWN PLANNING, ENVIRONMENT
AND PUBLIC WORKS OF GREECE
Design and construction of one guide and two restraining dolphins for a floating
structure that bridges the Lefkas Channel in Greece. The dolphin design was based on the
forces exerted both by the floating bridge in operation, and the possibility of a ship
impact.
The dolphins are steel monopiles (950 mm diameter) with variable thickness. Two of the
three dolphins were protected from ship collision by two specifically designed fendering
systems, capable of absorbing the impact energy.
