UNCONVENTIONAL COASTAL DREDGING TECHNIQUE
IN MYKONOS ISLAND
CLIENT : MYKOBAR S.A.

mykobar.jpg (13951 bytes)Design for a land-based seabed excavation drag scraper facility, which has been built on the Aegean island of Mykonos in a bay exposed to intense wave action. The land based scraper system achieved the following :

a) Minimum of capital outlay in view of the project's short life
b) Easy construction using an existing 4 tonne crane that existed on the island, with the use of local fishing boats.
The design adopted consisted of a drag line engine installed on the beach, while offshore at a distance of 225 m two large buoys were positioned by a system of chains and anchors. On these two buoys, the guide lines of the dredging bucket had been attached.
