The main objectives of the Master Plan of the Port of Volos were on the one hand the integration of the coastal port area into the surrounding urban area and on the other hand the reorganization of the land uses and the harmonization of the multiple and diverse port activities.
Main works include:
• A new marina for 250 -300 boats of mean length 20m. protected under any weather circumstances.
• A small repair yard with launching ramps.
• Construction of a metal platform for cruise ships docking in the Central Pier and renovation of the existing infrastructure and buildings.
• Reorganisation of the commercial activities and renovation of the Piers 1, 2 and 3.
• A new fish port for small-scale fisheries inside the main harbors’ s basin.
• New infrastructure for large fishing boats.
• Renovation of the coastal port zone.
The uses in the port area were rationally allocated in discrete zones in order to physically and operationally separate the tourist – entertainment – cruise activities from the commercial ones. In addition full utilization of the existing onshore and port facilities either on their current condition or after renovation was achieved.
