Project:Technical Consultant Services for the extension of the pier and land area, dredging and installation & new fenders in Korinthos Port

The project involved supervision of harbour works i.e. extension of the existing vertical wall, pier with an operational leeside depth of - 8.87 m. from Low Water Level, strengthening and completion of 4-6 t. armour stone protection of the land areas, dredging to - 8.87 m. from Low Water Level, extension and concrete paving of the Land Areas and provision of Fenders Trellex type MV500 x 1000 compound β to accommodate freighter and Ro-Ro ships.
Services included technical consultation to the supervising Authority (Korinthos Port Authority), site visits and meetings with both the Authority’s and the Contractor’s representatives, checking of quantity estimates, payments, various orders and time tables and preparation of Progress Reports.
More specifically services comprised:
• Detailed review of all existing detailed designs (maritime, geotechnical and environmental), Tender Documents (general and specific conditions of contract, technical invoices, quantity estimates, design budget, financial offer etc), construction and quality control methods proposed by the Contractor
• Review of approved Time Tables
• Inspection of existing works
• Review of work progress
• Propose and apply a system of monitoring, control, programming and coordination of works under progress, by defining physical and financial indexes and critical activities
• Preparation of monthly reports including work progress, personnel, equipment and material incorporated, construction method used, possible delays in critical activities etc
• In case of unforeseen circumstances, or problems in soil conditions encountered, proposal of modifications of the construction methods or the approved time table.
• Special attention is given to the full conformity to the environmental restrictions, relevant specifications and health and safety regulations
• Review of Contractor’s proposals regarding design, construction method and timetable modifications,
• Review of Bills of Quantities and relevant Drawings in comparison with executed works
• Participating in meetings both on site and in the Authority’ s premises
• Review soil investigation and laboratory test results, if needed
• Organize, coordinate and draft the report of underwater inspections especially in areas of connection between existing and new structures and toe of breakwater which is subjected to heavy wave action
• Review and reporting of structures’ behaviour (settlements, rotations, deformations, crackings etc) especially in the zones between existing and new structures. Proposal of remedial works.
