Location:Thessaloniki, Greece
Date:2004 - ongoing
Engineering Design and Project Management services executed by the J/V “TRITON Consulting Engineers Ltd - ADK Consulting Engineers S.A.- Rogan & Associates S.A.” for the design of extension of the Container-Terminal pier No 6 of the commercial port of Thesssaloniki for 600m. The existing pier is handling the bulk of the Thessaloniki port container traffic originating from Northern Greece and the neighboring Balkan countries. Due to the nature of the seabed substrata, extensive dredging as well as preloading of the foundation area with an artificial embankment and construction of stone columns was used in order to speed up the consolidation process.A great amount of silt clay was removed by dredging for the pier’s foundation . The pier’s quay walls were designed as of floating box caissons and were manufactured on site. After all settlements have developed, the fill were removed to half the caisson’s height and the cells were sealed with precast concrete slabs.
