The design of the marine structures and the marine related buildings of the project was awarded by the Consortium to TRITON Consulting Engineers. The Shoaiba Steam Power Plant Jetty is to be used for unloading crude oil and H.F.O., to be used for the operation of the Plant. Tankers having a DWT from 20.000 up to 100.000 will be berthing. The jetty is constructed in an area with moderate weather conditions but exposed to heavy seas. It is composed of a 41X25m unloading platform, 4 mooring and 4 breasting dolphins. An access bridge (trestle) with a length of 85.0 m and a causeway 350.0 m long, will be used to connect the unloading platform with the plant area. In addition, an L-shaped small vessel jetty for berthing of tug boats, fire fighting boats, pilot boat and auxiliary vessels will be constructed. A second smaller causeway will be constructed to connect this jetty with the plant area. Dredging will be required in the jetty area and the approach channel for the small vessel berth. For the protection of the perimeter limits of the reclamation area from the wave activity, revetments will be constructed. One auxiliary building with the control room and other facilities will be placed on an additional platform on piles, parallel to the access bridge. Finally the coast guard and auxiliary buildings will be constructed on shore. (All maps from Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 99) |
