Design and Technical Consultants at the Hellenic Shipyards of Skaramangas, carrying out survey at the harbour installations between September and November 1999 for the estimation of the kind and extent of the damages of the harbour and infrastructure works due to the Sep. 7, 1999 earthquake and proposal for the repair works. The damages were monitored at the two piers, the shipyard quay and the crane rails on the quay superstructure or behind it. For the repair of the damaged piers and quaywalls innovative techniques were adopted using concrete pile columns which combined with new reinforced pile caps on the super structure rehabilitated the structures at the minimum possible cost and interference with the shipyard activities. Rehabilitation of the crane rails included repair of the foundation beams as well as specialized quality controls to unsure the strict construction tolerances of the rail mounted equipment.
